Overview    

Located at the top of Fields Hill, with easy access to the M13, Kloof is an ideal location for office parks and office blocks that cater to the local businesses in the area and afar. There are a number of retail and commercial properties within this area, however, there is a limited amount of space available for lease and purchase. As a result, this area is becoming increasingly sought-after by businesses and investors. Extending from the top of Fields Hill, Kloof, borders Gillitts, Winston Park, Forest Hills and Hillcrest. Collectively these suburbs are known as the Upper Highway Area within the Outer West region of eThekwini Municipality (Durban).

History

Kloof was originally called 'Krantzkloof', after the nearby Kloof Gorge, but the name was later changed to 'Kloof'.  Kloof occupies the land that formed the 7,010 acre Richmond Farm No. 999.  As roads improved, an increasing number of people began permanently living here. Today Kloof is noted for its upmarket residential as well as commercial and retail properties.

Amenities

Kloof offers a wide range of popular accommodation options as well as sought after schools in Kwazulu Natal including Kearsney College, St Mary's DSG, Thomas More College and Highbury. The Shongweni Market is a farmer's market held every Saturday morning and allows locals as well as visitors to enjoy a carefree atmosphere but also providing business opportunities as well. The Kranztview Nature Reserve is another attraction which boasts popular rock climbing routes which are used by both beginners and experts. Located in an area with easy access to the M13 and N3 freeways is the Hillcrest/Busamed Private Hospital which offers top class medical facilities. There are also a wide range of shopping malls like the Watercrest Shopping Mall, local super markets and a variety of well known restaurants.
